Volume
What actually fits in a camera bag
A compact crossbody is only as useful as its internal volume. We look at printed dimensions, the role of depth, and what stays behind when packing light.
Checking the printed dimensions
We build our bags with specific exterior measurements so you know what to expect before carrying them. In our current catalogue, 29 of our bags print width, height and depth in inches. The widths run 7.25 to 12 inches across the range, which gives a clear sense of horizontal space. A long wallet might need eight inches of clearance, while a small cardholder settles into a much tighter base.
A slim profile looks neat against the hip, but width alone will not show you the real packing capacity. We design our small frames to sit cleanly, but you must look at how the perimeter walls connect. When you choose a frame that is barely wider than your phone, you lose the room required to slide your fingers down the inside edge to reach small items.
Why depth decides the carry
Depth is the measurement people read last and regret first. A flat pouch with one inch of depth lies close to the ribs, yet it cannot accommodate rounded items without stretching the outer shell. We find that two inches of depth holds a folded pair of glasses in a soft pouch, while one inch of depth will pinch the frames and bulge uncomfortably against the zip.
The base thickness also dictates how multiple items rest together. When we stitch extra depth into a base, your keys can sit beside your card wallet rather than stacked on top of it. A boxier cut lets a chunky key fob settle near the bottom without forcing the top zipper apart, keeping the vegan leather exterior smooth and unstrained throughout the day.
Knowing the three dimensions in inches keeps you from carrying a bag that cannot hold your daily essentials.
Phones with cases and daily essentials
Your phone is usually the longest rigid item you carry. A bare phone slides easily into a small slip pocket, but a thick protective case adds both height and thickness. If you add a silicone grip or a card sleeve to the back of the case, the phone requires the clearance of a much larger device, quickly eating up the central compartment of a small crossbody.
In our collection, 4 of the bags are quilted camera shapes designed with rectangular main compartments. These boxy silhouettes accept a tall phone, a lip balm, a key ring, and a small card case without warping the exterior. You can pack these four essentials together, provided you place the phone flat against the back lining and keep bulky keyrings toward the front.
Items that need a larger silhouette
Small camera crossbodies have real limits, and we prefer to state them clearly. A standard water bottle will not fit inside our smallest designs, nor will a classic paperback book or a folding umbrella. Forcing any of these items inside will stress the zipper teeth and distort the faux suede or vegan leather panels, ruining the line of the bag.
There are 6 colourways sit in the minis and straps section, giving plenty of tone choices for compact carry. When you know your day requires an extra layer, an umbrella, or reading material, set the small camera bag aside and move up to one of our wider shoulder styles or a soft hobo with a broader base.

More from the journal
The drop decides where a bag lands, not the word on the label
A bag is not defined by general labels like small or medium. The true position on your frame comes down to the strap drop, measured in clear inches from the shoulder…
StrapsTwo straps and what the second one actually buys you
A spare strap promises two silhouettes from a single body, shifting from a wide webbing cross to a narrow chain.
MaterialsFaux suede, the nap, and what water does to it
A faux suede surface changes shade because tiny fibres lean in one direction. Understanding how the nap shifts under pressure or rain keeps the material looking uniform…
Work out your own drop
Measure the bag you already wear at the right height, then see what in the range reaches the same number.
